Online MBA vs regular MBA fees: the real two-year math
Everyone quotes tuition. Nobody quotes the full two-year cost. Here is the honest math for both paths.
Tuition: the gap is real
Across the online MBAs we track right now, total tuition runs from ₹160,000 to ₹300,000 — about ₹196,000 on average. A full-time regular MBA at a decent Indian B-school typically costs ₹6–12 lakh in tuition alone, and Tier-1 programs run ₹20 lakh and beyond.
The cost nobody puts on the brochure
A regular MBA is full-time: you stop earning for two years. At even a modest ₹4 lakh annual salary, that is ₹8 lakh of income you do not make. Online learners keep their jobs — and often apply what they learn the same week.
Two-year total, side by side
| Cost head | Online MBA | Regular full-time MBA |
|---|---|---|
| Tuition | ~₹196,000 (tracked live) | ₹6–12L typical; ₹20L+ at Tier-1 |
| Hostel & living | ₹0 — study from home | ₹2–4L in a metro |
| Income foregone | ₹0 — you keep working | ~₹8L at a ₹4L salary |
| Realistic 2-year total | ~₹196,000 | ₹16–24L |
When the regular MBA still wins
If you are a fresher who needs campus placements, a peer network and a Tier-1 brand on day one of your career, the full-time campus experience can be worth the premium. Online cannot replicate a placement week.
When online wins decisively
If you are already working, supporting family, or simply refuse to pause your income — an online MBA from a UGC-entitled university delivers the degree at roughly a tenth of the true cost.
