How to choose an online university: a 7-point checklist
Every online university looks great on its own website. This checklist is how our counsellors evaluate them before listing — steal it.
1. Accreditation first
UGC entitlement for online degrees is non-negotiable; NAAC grade tells you the quality tier. If a university cannot show its UGC online entitlement letter, walk away.
2. Total fee, not semester fee
Multiply the semester fee, then add exam, registration and alumni charges. The number on the banner is rarely the number you pay.
3. Interrogate placement claims
Ask: what percentage of the batch is this average computed on? Is it CTC or in-hand? Reputable teams answer without flinching.
4. Live classes vs recordings
Decide how you learn. Live weekly classes suit people who need structure; recorded-first suits erratic schedules. Ask for the weekly time commitment in hours.
5. Exam mode
Online-proctored vs centre-based exams change your logistics massively, especially if you travel for work.
6. Scholarships you actually qualify for
Merit lists are marketing. Ask for the eligibility criteria for each scholarship in writing before applying.
7. Alumni network and LMS quality
Request a demo login or a recorded class walkthrough. A clunky LMS makes two years feel very long.
